ATLANTA, GA — The Georgia State women's basketball team (4-4, 0-0 SBC) generated a 23-point boost from the bench, but ultimately fell 70-51 to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears (5-2, 0-0 ASUN) on Wednesday inside the GSU Convocation Center, closing out their run in the annual GSU Thanksgiving Tournament.
Cheyenne Holloman paced the Panthers with nine points and six rebounds, while Crystal Henderson added 11 points. Off the bench, Savannah Robinson-Holmes delivered seven points and a team-high three steals to spark Georgia State's second unit.
Defensively, the Panthers created problems, forcing 17 Central Arkansas turnovers and committing just 11 of their own. Those takeaways translated into 13 points, with Robinson-Holmes leading the charge with three steals.
How It Happened
Georgia State stumbled out of the gate, falling behind 22-5 after the opening quarter.
The Panthers responded with more composure in the second period, trimming the margin to 34-19 by halftime.
Central Arkansas rebuilt its cushion after the break, outscoring Georgia State to create a 59-31 gap entering the fourth. The Panthers found some rhythm inside during the frame, with six of their 12 third-quarter points coming within the paint.
In the final period, Georgia State held the Sugar Bears in check and pieced together a late 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 70-51 with 22 seconds remaining. The score would stand through the final buzzer. The Panthers also received a strong lift from their reserves in the quarter, as the bench contributed nine of the team's 20 points.
