CANCÚN, Mx. -- Joah Chappelle registered his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but the Georgia State men's basketball team fell to the New Mexico State Aggies 77-58 at Hard Rock Cancun on Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers had three players score in double figures, led by Micah Tucker, who had 15 points and four steals. Chappelle added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Ayouba Berthe chipped in as well with 10 points.
Led by Chappelle's five offensive rebounds, Georgia State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.
Georgia State's defense held New Mexico State to only 38.2 percent shooting from the field.
How It Happened
After falling behind 2-0, Georgia State went on a 9-0 run with 19:05 left in the first half to take a 9-2 lead. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 37-28.
New Mexico State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 75-49 advantage before Georgia State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Malachi Brown's layup, to shrink the deficit to 75-54 with 1:08 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept their comeback going, but New Mexico State managed to hold on for the 77-58 win. Georgia State took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 30 points in the lane.
