MACON, Ga. --The Georgia State men's basketball team came up short in a 78-67 loss to the Mercer Bears on the road Tuesday.
The Panthers had three players score in double figures, led by Jakai Newton, who had 18 points and eight rebounds. Micah Tucker tacked on 16 points and Ayouba Berthe helped out with 13 points off the bench.
How It Happened
After falling behind 25-9, Georgia State went on a 9-0 run with 12:12 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 25-18. The Panthers continued to narrow the gap and tied the game at 46-46 heading into halftime. Georgia State saw the bench step up in the period, as non-starters registered 16 of its 46 total points.
Georgia State started the second half with a bang, going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Newton's three, to seize a 51-46 lead with 19:05 to go in the contest. Mercer then asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 32-16 the rest of the way to hand Georgia State the 78-67 loss.
