Panthers Win Sixth Straight, Down ULM in Four Sets

MONROE, LA — The Georgia State volleyball team (17-9, SBC 8-7) notched its sixth straight victory Thursday night, taking down the ULM Warhawks (10-19, SBC 1-14) in four sets at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The Panthers' offense was firing on all cylinders, featuring four players in double-digit kills. Manuela Altieri Liev led the charge with 13 kills and a .313 hitting percentage, while Courtney Smith and Akira Burt each added 11. Burt also anchored the front row with six blocks. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Marta Lazzarin had 27 and Hady Pickard had 14. 

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Panthers grabbed the first set 25-21 helped by a strong showing on the attacking side. Georgia State put together a .333 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set victory. The Panthers rallied from down five at 20-15 to grab the win.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Georgia State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-15 victory in set number two. The Panthers took the set powered by a strong performance on the attacking end. Georgia State registered a .400 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set win. The Panthers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Georgia State offense also got a boost from three aces in the frame.

SET 3 | UL Monroe avoided a sweep with a set-three win to make it a 2-1 match. The Panthers came up short by the score of 25-20. UL Monroe grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was tied up two times before the Warhawks took over the lead.

SET 4 | Georgia State then responded to end the match with a 25-21 set-four victory. The Panthers came out on top after a back-and-forth battle to win the set that featured five lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team was able to grab a lead larger than four points along the way.
