ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State volleyball team fell to the Indiana State Sycamores in five sets (25-19, 18-25, 24-26, 25-12, 12-15) Friday at home at GSU Sports Arena.
The non-conference loss moved Georgia State to 0-1 on the season.
The Panthers were led by a double-double from Alessia Cappai, who registered 16 kills and 10 digs on the day. Peyton Gash also added 12 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kaleigh Fitzgerald chipped in for with 15 digs to go with four blocks from Keionna MacKey.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Panthers cruised to an early lead, easily winning the first set 25-19. Georgia State never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that had just one lead change before the Panthers took over the lead. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Indiana State attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Georgia State then dropped the second set 25-18, tying the match at a set apiece. Georgia State trailed by as many as seven points as Indiana State grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was tied up just once before the Sycamores took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | A third-set loss put Georgia State down two sets to one. The Panthers fell in a back-and-forth battle, losing 26-24 in a set that featured five lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team had a lead of more than three points along the way.
SET 4 | Georgia State broke their two set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a 25-12 victory in set number four. The Panthers led from the first point on in the set to earn the victory. Georgia State opened up as much as a 15 point lead at 24-9 before finishing off the stanza.
SET 5 | After dropping sets two and three, Georgia State won set four, knotting up the game at two sets apiece to force a fifth set, but couldn't complete the comeback, losing the set 15-12 and the match 3-2. The Panthers lost set five in spite of a solid performance on the attacking end. Georgia State registered a .348 attack percentage with 10 kills in the set loss.
The Panthers return to action at 6:30Â p.m. to take on South Dakota State.Â
