ATLANTA - Led by junior Justin McLean and senior Hideto Gondo, the Georgia State Panthers open their season against Belmont at the GSU Soccer Complex on Aug. 22 at 7:00 p.m. ET. 

RETURNING PANTHERS: The Panthers bring back a lot of production from last season. seniors Hideto Gondo, Josue Hangi and junior Gavin Williams started every game for the Panthers last season. Returning midfielder Justin McLean tied the team lead with five assists and was second with four goals last season. Key defensive starter Charlie Ward, who played in every game last season, also returns for his senior season. 

NEW FACES: The Panthers welcome 12 newcomers to the 2024 roster, with seven transfers and five freshmen.
>Tyrone Kirunda, a graduate student from Santa Clara, scored three goals and added seven assists in three seasons at Santa Clara.
> Yuki Nakamura, a junior from Cowley College, played in 35 matches over the last two seasons while scoring two goals.
> Miguel Ramirez, a graduate student from Duke, scored three goals and added six assists in four seasons at Duke.
> Gustavo Marques, a junior from Indian Hills, scored 16 goals and added six assists in two seasons at Indian Hills
> Braiden Hall, a junior from USC Upstate, was named to Big South All-Conference Second Team in 2023. He scored seven goals and added five assists in two seasons at USC Upstate.
> Tom Fillaudeau, a junior from Iona, All-MAAC First Team in 2023, started every match in 2023 for Iona. 

THE SURRENCY ERA: The Panthers have won 10 matches in six of the past eight seasons under Head Coach Brett Surrency. Head Coach Brett Surrency has 141 career wins, two behind the Georgia State record of 143 by Coach Scottie O'Neal. 

SEASON OPENERS: Georgia State is 3-2 in their last five season openers, including a 0-1 loss to open last season at Belmont on Aug. 24, 2023. 

SERIES HISTORY: Georgia State dropped the previous meeting 0-1 at Belmont on Aug. 24, 2023. The Panthers are 3-5 in program history against Belmont.
