TUSCALOOSA, AL --The Georgia State women's basketball team got a 25-point showing from the bench, but fell 98-49 to the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road Monday.
Mahogany Matthews led the Panthers (5-4) with five points and four steals. Mikyla Tolivert also added 10 points and Mya Williams chipped in as well with eight points and two steals.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 5-4 advantage, Georgia State went on a 6-0 run with 7:12 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Matthews, to increase its lead to 11-4. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 19-15.
The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 50-27 halftime deficit.
Alabama continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 68-29 advantage before Georgia State went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kaleigh Addie, to trim its deficit to 68-36 with 3:36 to go in the third. Alabama countered and stretched its lead to 77-37 heading into the fourth. Georgia State played well near the basket, scoring six of its 10 points in the paint.
Alabama kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 91-41 advantage before Georgia State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Cheyenne Holloman's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 91-46 with 5:13 to go in the contest. Alabama responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 98-49. Georgia State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.
