Panthers secure 3-set Sweep over UL Monroe on Senior Day

ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State volleyball team walked away with a three-set victory (25-16, 25-15, 25-19) against the UL Monroe Warhawks Friday at home at GSU Sports Arena.

The conference win improved Georgia State's record to 16-12 overall and 7-9 in Sun Belt action.

The Panthers offense was paced by Alessia Cappai, who finished with 10 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .529, and by Izzy Durnell, who had 10 while hitting .45. Defensively, had three players reach double figures in digs, including Shanelle Martinez's 13, 13 from Kaleigh Fitzgerald, and 11 more from Livy Kowalkowski.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Panthers grabbed the first set 25-16 powered by a strong performance on the attacking end. Georgia State registered a .432 attack percentage with 20 kills in the set victory. The Panthers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.

SET 2 | Georgia State built on a set-one win by securing a 25-15 victory in set number two. The Panthers never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that had just one lead change before Georgia State took over the lead. The Georgia State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Georgia State took set three to win in straight sets. The Panthers led from the opening point on in the set to secure a 25-19 victory. Georgia State opened up as much as an eight point lead at 23-15 before closing out the set. The Georgia State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

The Panthers have clinched the Sun Belt conference tournament and await seeding. Competition will start Thursday, Nov. 21.
