Panthers Earn 3-1 Victory over Marshall

HUNTINGTON, WV --The Georgia State volleyball team took care of business in four sets (25-22, 12-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21) to knock off the Marshall Thundering Herd Friday on the road at Cam Henderson Center.

The conference win improved Georgia State's record to 13-8 overall and 4-5 in Sun Belt play.

The Panthers were led by a double-double from Keionna MacKey, who registered 11 kills and 13 digs on the day. Peyton Gash also added 12 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kaleigh Fitzgerald chipped in for with 19 digs to go with five blocks from Myllena Torquetti.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Panthers opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-22. Georgia State never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Panthers took over the lead. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Marshall attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Georgia State lost the second set 25-12 to even the match 1-1. Georgia State trailed by as many as 13 points as Marshall grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up six times before the Thundering Herd took over the lead.

SET 3 | Georgia State bounced back following the set-two loss to take the third set and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Panthers the set set three 25-22. Georgia State took the lead for good at 21-20 in a set that featured nine ties and six lead changes.

SET 4 | Georgia State kept the momentum going, claiming the match win with a 25-21 set-four victory. The Panthers took the lead for good at 8-7 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Panthers took over the lead. Georgia State got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Marshall attacks in the stanza and capitalized on 11 Marshall attacking errors on the way to victory.

The Panthers are back tomorrow for game two against Marshall at 2:00 p.m.
