ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State volleyball team beat the Old Dominion Monarchs in five sets (26-24, 18-25, 25-19, 29-31, 15-9) Saturday at home at GSU Sports Arena.
The conference win improved Georgia State's record to 12-8 overall and 3-5 in Sun Belt play.
The Panthers were led by a double-double from Keionna MacKey, who registered 16 kills and 12 digs on the day. Akira Burt also added 12 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kaleigh Fitzgerald chipped in for with 23 digs to go with six blocks from Kayla Broom.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Panthers came out on top of a close first set, winning 26-24 in a stanza that was tied three times and had one lead change. Georgia State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Georgia State then fell in set two 25-18, evening things at a set each. Georgia State trailed by as many as seven points as Old Dominion grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was tied up 10 times before the Monarchs took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Georgia State put the second-set loss behind and took a 2-1 match lead with a win in the third set. The Panthers took the set 25-19. Georgia State took the lead for good at 16-15 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Georgia State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Monarchs forced a fifth set with a 31-29 victory. The Panthers fought back from a seven-point hole at 18-11, but it wasn't enough as Old Dominion held on to win the set.
SET 5 | Georgia State and Old Dominion went back and forth all game, trading set wins until the Panthers took the fifth set 15-9 and the match. The Panthers grabbed control of the set-five lead at 2-1 and held it the rest of the way. Georgia State led by as many as eight points at 13-5 before closing out the set, collecting nine kills .
The Panthers travel to Huntington next to take on Marshall on Saturday Oct. 25 at 6:00 p.m.Â
