ATLANTA, -- Georgia State earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against in-state rival Mercer on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the GSU Soccer Complex. After conceding a goal just before halftime, the Panthers responded in the second half when Justin McLean scored in the 79th minute, finishing off a well-placed assist from Tom Williams. Georgia State applied pressure throughout the second half, outshooting Mercer 10-7, but could not find a winning goal. The Panthers' defense held strong, limiting Mercer to just one shot on target the entire match.
How it Happened
Mercer took a 1-0 lead when Fernando Arteaga scored in the 43rd minute, assisted by Natnael McDonald and Barzee Blama.
The Panthers leveled the match on a goal from Justin Mclean -- his fourth goal of the season -- in the 78th minute, assisted by Tom Williams. The goal closed the scoring in the match.
