Career-Highs by Murray, Durnell Lead Panthers to 3-1 Win and 2-0 Start

ATLANTA, GA -- Led by a career-high 15 kills from Izzy Durnell, Georgia State won its second match of the day with a 3-1 win (25-23, 27-25, 25-27, 25-13) over New Orleans in the GSU Invitational Friday at the GSU Sports Arena. Earlier in the day, the Panthers swept South Carolina State.

Setter Laughlin Murray also recorded a career high with 33 assists, and Erin Wyatt had a double-double for the Panthers with 10 kills and 10 digs.

The Panthers (2-0) will wrap up the GSU Invitational Saturday with a 2 p.m. match against Chattanooga.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Panthers persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Georgia State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 27-25 victory in set number two. The Panthers rallied after being down as many as eight points at 15-7 to win the set. Georgia State grabbed the lead at 26-25 and hung on for the victory, collecting 18 kills in the set.

SET 3 | Georgia State saw its chance for a 3-0 sweep end when New Orleans took the third set. The Panthers fell in a back-and-forth battle, losing 27-25 in a set that featured four lead changes and was tied 13 times. Neither team had a lead of more than two points along the way.

SET 4 | Georgia State then responded to finish off the match with a 25-13 set-four victory. The Panthers took control of the set at 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way. Georgia State led by as many as 14 points at 24-10 before closing out the stanza. Georgia State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
