ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State volleyball opened the 2023 season with a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-11, 25-17) over South Carolina State in Friday's season opener at GSU Sports Arena.
The Panthers will continue the GSU Invitational with a 6 p.m. match against New Orleans.
Erin Wyatt finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Panthers attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .259. GSU got 17 digs from Livy Kowalkowski to lead them defensively.

SET 1 | The Panthers earned a set-one victory 25-23 helped by a strong performance on the attacking side. Georgia State registered a .324 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set victory. The Panthers took their first and last lead of the match at 15-14 and rode it to victory. Georgia State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Georgia State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-11 victory in set number two. The Panthers scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Georgia State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 14 points, to close out the set, totaling 17 kills without committing an attack error along the way. The Panthers hit .515 over the course of a set where they racked up 17 kills.
SET 3 | Georgia State closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing the third set. The Panthers won the set 25-17 propelled by a solid performance on the attacking side. Georgia State put together a .313 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. The Panthers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
