Jones, Ryerson, Watson Named All-Sun Belt

Jones is the First Three-Time, First-Team All-Conference Selection in Program History

ATLANTA -- Georgia State baseball standouts Cameron Jones, Max Ryerson and Ryan Watson were named to the 2023 All-Sun Belt Conference Baseball Team, selected by the league head coaches and announced Monday.

Jones, the outfielder and pitcher from Kathleen, Ga., is the first-team All-Sun Belt utility player for the third straight year, making him the first player in GSU baseball history to be named first-team all-conference three times.

Ryerson, the senior designated hitter and two-time all-conference player, and Watson, the fifth-year senior starting pitcher, were named second-team All-Sun Belt.

Jones, the Panthers' starting right fielder, leads the Sun Belt and ranks No. 7 in Division I with 36 stolen bases, the Georgia State season record. He is the team's second-leading hitter at .350 homers with 29 RBI and 50 runs scored.

Also a left-handed reliever, the Kathleen, Ga., native is 2-2 on the mound with a 2.94 ERA. Over the last two seasons he has hit .361, stole 48 base and scored 90 runs while collecting four wins and five saves with a 2.96 ERA.

Ryerson is one of the top power hitters in the Sun Belt and the nation with 19 home runs this season. The Conway, S.C., ranks third in the conference in homers and batting average at .376, along with a .485 on-base percentage and a team-leading 49 RBI.

Ryerson ranks third in Georgia State history with 41 homers in his two seasons for the Panthers. Adding his one season at Charleston Southern, he has hit 50 home runs, tied for eighth among all active Division I players.

Watson, the right-hander from Sugar Hill, Ga., is the Panthers' top starting pitcher with a 6-1 record and a 3.99 ERA. He was undefeated in Sun Belt play (6-0, 3.72 ERA), and he leads the conference in fewest walks per nine innings while ranking third in WHIP. He was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for his final home start, when he pitched seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and just five hits allowed in the win over Georgia Southern.

Watson ranks third in GSU history with 19 career victories and third with 12 career saves, while his total of 31 combined wins and saves is a school record. He stands fifth in program history with 200 career strikeouts.

The Panthers open the Guardian Credit Union Sun Belt Conference Championship Tuesday, facing Georgia Southern at 7:30 p.m. ET at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.
