Boynton's 10th Homer, Pitching Staff Lead 5-2 Win Over MTSU

ATLANTA -- Luke Boynton homered and the Georgia State bullpen pitched four scoreless innings to lead the Panthers to a 5-2 victory over Middle Tennessee Tuesday at the GSU Baseball Complex.

GSU starter Camren Landry (1-3) struck out seven in five innings, allowing two runs on three hits to earn his first victory.

Then Georgia State (16-17) relievers Aidan McAllister, Zach Ottinger, Davis Chastain and Duncan Lutz finished the game with one scoreless inning each. Lutz recorded his first career save.

Boynton, the junior first baseman, broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with his 10th homer of the season, a 2-run blast to right center. He is now tied for the team lead and has hit 22 over the last two seasons.

Leading 4-2, Georgia State added an insurance run in the eighth as Jaden Anderson singled and was lifted for pinch runner Caleb Stewart. Stewart stole second base, and with two outs, he advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home when the catcher's throw to third was wild.

Stewart then made a big defensive play in the ninth when he caught a line drive in right field and doubled the runner off first base.

The Panthers started the scoring in the second inning as Will Mize singled and scored on Michael Maginnis' double down the left field line. In the fourth inning, Jesse Donohoe drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Cameron Jones walked twice and stole his 25th base of the season, equaling the second-best season total in program history. The Georgia State season record is 34, set by Jimmy Folkes in 1980.

Georgia State continues its homestand by hosting Arkansas State in a three-game weekend series at the GSU Baseball Complex, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
