Gaddis Makes Opening Day Roster for Cleveland Guardians

Former Georgia State baseball standout Hunter Gaddis has made the Opening Day roster for MLB's Cleveland Guardians and is scheduled to start on the mound Friday against the Seattle Mariners.

Gaddis, the right-hander from Canton, Ga., and Sequoyah High School, starred for the Panthers from 2017-19.  The two-time All-Sun Belt Conference pitcher set the school record for lowest career ERA at 3.81 while ranking second in GSU history with 277 career strikeouts (9.35 per nine innings), fourth in innings pitched (266.2) and sixth in games started (40).

He was selected by the Cleveland organization in the fifth round of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft, becoming the highest player drafted out of Georgia State.

Gaddis made his Major League debut for the Guardians in 2022, when he made two appearances. He is the second former Panther to reach the Major Leagues, following David Buchanan, who pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2014-15 and is now pitching in the Korean Baseball Organization.
