Mize, Hynek Homer in Win over Brown

Game 2 of Doubleheader Suspended Due to Light Malfunction

ATLANTA -- Will Mize and Colin Hynek homered and Jesse Donohoe drove in four runs to lead Georgia State to a 10-4 victory over Brown in the first game of a doubleheader at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Game 2 was suspended due to a light malfunction after four innings with GSU leading 4-0 and will be resumed Sunday at 11 a.m. The series finale will follow.

In Game 1, Georgia State led 5-4 after six innings before breaking the game open with five runs in the seventh. Donohoe delivered a two-out, two-run single, and then Hynek, a redshirt freshman, belted a 3-run homer for a 10-4 lead. Not only was that Hynek's first career homer, but it was his first hit.

The Panthers (3-3) jumped in front with two runs in the first on an RBI-groundout by JoJo Jackson and a run-scoring single by Donohoe. Donohoe, the sophomore second baseman from Columbus, Ga., also drove in run with a groundout in the fifth inning to give him four RBI for the game and eight over the last two games after hitting a grand slam Friday.

Mize hit a two-run homer, his first, to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Freshman reliever Davis Chastain (1-1) picked up his first win, and Zach Ottinger finished the game with two scoreless innings.

In the nightcap, sophomore outfielder JoJo Jackson hit his team-leading fourth homer of the season with an opposite field solo shot in the third. GSU starter Joseph Brandon retired the first 11 batters before allowing a walk and then a single. He struck out six in four innings.
