Strickland's Go-Ahead Homer in 8th Completes Sweep of Brown

ATLANTA -- Dylan Strickland hit the go-ahead, 3-run home run in the eighth inning to give Georgia State a 6-5 win over Brown, completing a four-game sweep at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Earlier in the day, Georgia State and Brown completed Game 3 of the series after the second game of Saturday's doubleheader was suspended after four innings due to a light malfunction. The Panthers took their 4-0 lead and turned it into a 10-1 victory.

Georgia State (5-3) trailed 3-1 in the sixth inning when redshirt freshman Colin Hynek tied the game with a 2-run, opposite field homer, his second of the weekend.

Brown (0-4) regained the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth, setting the stage for Strickland's heroics in the bottom half. Michael Maginnis led off the eighth with a double, but Brown reliever Jack Seppings (0-1) quickly got two outs. After freshman Brennan Hudson worked a walk, Strickland smashed the 2-1 pitch well over the left field fence for a 420-foot homer.

In his first career appearance, freshman righty Quin McManmon recorded the final four outs to earn his first win. He came on with two outs runners at second and third in the eighth and induced a fly ball out and then retired the Bears in order in the ninth, ending the game on strikeout.

GSU starter Mason Patel tossed six innings, allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

In Sunday's resumption of Game 3 of the series, Georgia State took a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning, when the Panthers struck for four more, including a 3-run homer by Will Mize, his second of the weekend. Freshman Jaden Anderson added a 2-run homer, his first, in the eighth inning. Before the suspension, JoJo Jackson hit his team-leading fourth homer in the third inning.

Four Panther pitchers combined to allow just one run on three hits. Starter Joseph Brandon was outstanding on Saturday, retiring the first 11 batters before allowing a walk and then a single. He struck out six in four innings but did not figure in the decision. Chad Treadway (1-1) took over on Sunday and pitched two innings to earn the victory before freshmen Kameron Douglas (2 scoreless innings) and Jack Wise (1 scoreless inning) closed out the win.

Georgia State returns to action with a midweek game at Alabama State Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.
