ATLANTA –
Jesse Donohoe hit a grand slam and
Blaine Marchman homered to lead Georgia State to an 11-3 rain-shortened victory over Brown in 5-2/3 innings at the GSU Baseball Complex on Friday evening.
Donohoe's grand slam, the first homer of his collegiate career, capped off a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Marchman went 2-for-4 with three RBI's and
Michael Maginnis drove in two runs on a single in the second inning.
Georgia State (2-3) jumped out front 2-0 on a bases-loaded walk by
Luke Boynton and groundout by
Michael Maginnis. Then GSU took control with 7 runs on 6 hits and 2 errors in the second, capped off by Donohoe's slam off the top of the scoreboard in right field to make it 9-0.
Panther starter
Ryan Watson pitched three scoreless innings with two strikeouts, and then after a 1 hour 14 minute rain delay,
Brooks Gorman (1-0) finished the game to earn the win.
Brown (0-1) made things interesting with three runs in the sixth inning before Marchman crushed his three-run blast over the blue monster in right-center field to make it 11-3 before the game was called due to rain.
Georgia State's series with Brown continues tomorrow in a doubleheader at the GSU Baseball Complex. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
