Panthers Drop Game, Series to Cincinnati

ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell 6-4 in the series finale against Cincinnati as the Bearcats rallied with four runs in the seventh and eighth innings Sunday at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Cincinnati won the series, two games to one. Game 3 of the series was suspended with Georgia State leading 3-2 after seven innings and is still under review by the NCAA.

The Panthers (1-2) got home runs from JoJo Jackson and Kyle Hilton to take a 4-2 lead after four innings, but the Bearcats tied the game with two runs in the seventh and then scored the go-ahead runs in the eighth on a 2-run single by shortstop Kameron Guidry.

Georgia State put the tying runs on base with out in the ninth but Cincinnati closed out the win.

Jackson, the sophomore outfielder, continued his hot hitting with his second official homer of the weekend, a 2-run shot in the first inning to give the Panthers the early lead. He hit a third homer in the suspended game.

After Cincinnati tied the game in the fourth, Hilton, the junior catcher, hit his first career homer in the bottom of the fourth to give Georgia State a 4-2 lead.

For the three games, Georgia State hit six homers and the GSU pitching staff averaged nearly strikeouts per nine innings.

Georgia State returns to action next weekend, when the Panthers host Brown in a four-game series that begins Friday at 3 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
