Panthers Add Accomplished Transfer, Daniel Medellin, to Roster

ATLANTA – Georgia State head men's golf coach Chad Wilson announced the signing of transfer Daniel Medellin this week. A native of Bogota, Colombia, Medellin will join the Panthers' roster as a transfer from Clayton State following a highly successful tenure competing for the Lakers' men's golf program.

Medellin arrives in Atlanta having been slotted as the No. 27 ranked men's golfer in Division II to end the fall 2022 season. Posting a top-15 finish in all four tournament outings with Clayton State last fall, Medellin led the team averaging 71.6 strokes per round with a season-high fifth place finish at the Columbus State Cougar Invitational.

While competing in his hometown of Bogota in June 2022, Medellin appeared on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica and placed T22 at the Volvo Golf Championship by State Insurance (-8). Other top tournament finishes have included T9 at the Currahee Collegiate Invitational (E), and T10 at the UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate (-2) last fall.

In 2021-22, Medellin appeared in all nine tournaments for Clayton State while playing 27 rounds and recording an average score of 73— the ninth best in the program's history. Medellin shot 13 rounds of par or better throughout 2021-22, which currently ties for fourth in the program's history.

Medellin recorded a team-second best total of 82 birdies with Clayton State in 2021-22, and his 4.737 average on Par 5 scoring marked the sixth best in the school's history. Medellin finished third at the S/SE Super Regional Preview that year, and tied for 14th out of 44 at the Peach Belt Conference Championships.

Head coach Chad Wilson is enthusiastic about the Panthers' latest signee and believes the highly touted transfer can bring immediate value to the team.

"We are very excited to announce the signing of Daniel Medellin," Wilson said. "Daniel comes to us from Clayton State where he competed the past two years and consistently proved that he can play elite level golf. We wanted to add an accomplished player to our squad, and we found the perfect fit with Daniel."

Medellin graduated from Colegio San Carlos in 2021. The Colombia native earned Medalist Honors in three tournaments during his senior season.

"He not only excels on the course, but in the classroom as well," Wilson said. "We are expecting him to make an immediate impact on our squad. Having spent two years with Coach Hank Kim, Daniel has been able to develop into a well-rounded college golfer and we can't wait to get him on campus."
