KENNESAW, GA --Five Panthers scored in double figures, but Georgia State fell at Kennesaw State 88-77 Saturday at the KSU Convocation Center.
The Panthers (3-4) were led by Lucas Taylor, who had 17 points. Dwon Odom tacked on 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Jay'Den Turner chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Kennesaw State (5-3) led from start to finish, using a 17-0 scoring run to build a 27-8 lead with eight minutes left in the first half before the Panthers managed to to cut into the lead, trailing by 11 at the half at 43-32.
Taylor hit a 3-pointer to start the second half to pull GSU within 43-34, but the Owls answered with a 3-pointer, and Georgia State could not get their deficit back to single digits until the final minute.Â
"Kennesaw State and Coach "Pet" (Antoine Pettway) beat us in every aspect of this game, from their physicality to their connectiveness on the offensive and defensive ends. That's a helluva team," GSU head coach Jonas Hayes said.
"We're going to meet that challenge one day, but it didn't happen today. I love my team, but today we fell way short, and we've got to continue to get better.
"We have to play with poise," Hayes continued. "It was an emotionally-charged game, which we knew it would be. I thought our emotions got away from us, and we stepped away from our game plan on both ends of the floor.
"I do think we have a resilient bunch. I have to no doubt that we are going to pick ourselves up, find where need to get better and get better at it."
After playing three straight road games, the Panthers return home to host Middle Georgia State Monday at 7 p.m. at the GSU Convocation Center. For tickets, visit GeorgiaStateSports.com/tix.
