ATLANTA -- Jay'Den Turner had a season-high 19 points and four other players scored in double figures in Georgia State's 89-57 win over Middle Georgia State Monday at the GSU Convocation Center.
Turner, the graduate transfer from Queens, went 7-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range, and pulled down six rebounds. Dwon Odom contributed 11 points, nine assists four steals, three rebounds and two steals.
Toneari Lane scored 15 points, Julian Mackey chipped in a season-high 14 points off the bench and Lucas Taylor added 11. Edward Nnamoko had a team-high seven rebounds.
After leading just 35-32 at the half, Georgia State (4-4) broke the game open with a 20-1 run early in the second half, ignited by three consecutive 3-pointers by Turner, Lane and Taylor.
The Panthers shot 50 percent for the game, including 58 percent in the second half, and the Panthers hit a season-high 12 3-pointers. The ball movement and balanced scoring was evident by the 20 assists recorded by GSU, another season-high.
"We were really committed to one another, and we were really committed to touching the paint. If the shot was there, we took it, and if not, we kicked it out," head coach Jonas Hayes said.
Senior Brenden Tucker scored seven points, including the 1000th point of his college career.
"I'm proud of this young man," Hayes said while sitting next to Tucker in the post-game press conference. "He scored his 1000th point tonight.
"That's what happens when you've been a college for a millennium," Hayes added jokingly.
"Brenden has really exemplified a lot of selfless leadership," Hayes continued. "For him to be able to hit his milestone, that speaks to character and his leadership, and I couldn't be more proud of him."
