CHARLOTTE, NC -- Toneari Lane and Jay'Den Turner lead the Panthers with a combined 23 points, but it is not enough as GSU falls 65-57 to the Charlotte 49ers on the road on Saturday.Â
The Georgia State men's basketball team kept Charlotte to just 18.2 percent from deep in a 2-for-11 shooting performance. The Panthers (3-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Toneari Lane, who had 12 points. Jay'Den Turner added 11 points, nine rebounds and two steals and Leslie Nkereuwem added nine points and 11 rebounds.
Led by Nkereuwem's eight offensive rebounds, Georgia State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 12 second-chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 13-12, Georgia State went on an 11-0 run with 11:35 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Nkereuwem, to take a 23-13 lead. The Panthers then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 37-26 advantage. Georgia State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 37 points.
Charlotte then erased the Georgia State lead in the game's final quarter for a 65-57 comeback victory. Georgia State took care of business in the paint, recording 10 of its 20 points in the lane.
