Panthers Drop to Chanticleers in Conway

The Panthers closed out the series against Coastal Carolina with a three-set loss to the Chanticleers, 25-20, 25-14, 25-23.

The Panthers kept it close in set one, trading points with the Chanticleers and preventing them from going on any long runs. Julianna Truscott put down back-to-back kills to bring the Panthers within one at 16-17 and forced the Chanticleers to call a timeout. However, the Panthers could not pull in front and the Chanticleers took set one 25-20. The second set was all Chanticleers, as they ran away with the set after an 8-0 run, winning 25-14.

Evoni Lemons got things started for the Panthers in set three with a kill for the Panthers first point. The Panthers were more in sync in set three, as they recorded five of their eight blocks in the third set, including this one from Truscott and Laura Ehize that set the tone early on.

The Chanticleers went on a four – nothing run, to go up ten to five, before the teams would begin to trade points again. The Panthers clawed their way back into the match and a Clara Bednarek kill would tie the set up.

An Ehieze kill and block would tie things up again at 19 all, before Coastal would go on four – nothing that would set up match point. Two kills by Truscott and Lemons saved two match points, but the Chanticleers would eventually win the final point and the match.

Ehieze was a defensive threat throughout the match, leading all players on the court with five blocks, including four solo. The middle blocker also put down six kills, hitting a team-best .385. Bednarek notched two blocks and four kills. Right side hitter, Isabelle Percoco, recorded three blocks and seven kills. Truscott also put down seven kills bringing her season total to 113 thus far. Livy Kowalkowski, led all players on the court with 14 digs in the three sets. Sophomore setter, Jenna Brown, led the Panthers with 19 assists and picked up seven digs. Outsider hitter, Evoni Lemons, also put down five kills for the Panthers.

The Panthers are on the road once again Sept. 29 – 30, as they head to West Virginia to take on new Sun Belt Conference opponent, Marshall.
