Bednarek Named All-Tournament Following Sweep Over the Bulldogs

SPARTANBURG - Clara Bednarek was named to the Terrier Invite All-Tournament Team following the Panthers sweep over the South Carolina State Bulldogs.

Julianna Truscott opened the match for the Panthers with a kill from a Jenna Brown assist. Bednarek's first kill of the match would come off a Laughlin Murray assist, which would set up the slam to follow. Izzy Durnell had a smart play dropping a kill inside the ten-foot line, giving the Panthers a five-point lead. Erin Wyatt added to the Panthers kill total, with a big swing that found the back line. Bednarek and Durnell gave the Panthers set point after stuffing the Bulldog's outside hitter.  Bednarek's fourth kill of the set would seal the set one victory for the Panthers, 25-8.

Maren Palmer started the second set from behind the service line for the Panthers. In the six opening serves the setter dished out two aces, giving the Panthers an early 6-0 lead. The seasoned veteran, Truscott, adjusted as she went up and hit one down to earn the sideout for the Panthers at 7-1. The Panthers did not slow down from the service line as Ryan Spicer-Gordon served up two aces. Truscott kept swinging using the block to get a kill before laying down the hammer for her seventh kill of the match, giving the Panthers a 15-point lead. The Panthers would win set two 25-4.

The Panthers trailed for the first time in set three, as the Bulldogs opened the set with an ace. A kill from Isabelle Percoco would give the Panthers the 7-6 advantage. Excellent serving from Spicer-Gordon helped the Panthers go on a 9-0 run. Laura Ehieze won a joust at the net to win the point for the Panthers. Crystal Galaviz put down a kill earning the final point of the match for the Panthers at 25-12.

The Panthers were strong from the service line, with a total of 13 aces. Brown, Murray, and Spicer-Gordon each had three, while Palmer and Kowalkowski tacked on two each. Bednarek and Truscott each had nine kills and a solo block. It was an all-around solid team performance as fifteen different Panthers saw valuable action on the court.

The Panthers have wrapped up their non-conference play and head to Conway, S.C. nest weekend to face Sun Belt Conference foe, Coastal Carolina. The matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
