Ryerson Breaks GSU Season Home Run Record

Box Score ATLANTA -- Max Ryerson hit his Georgia State-record 22nd home run of the season, but the Panthers dropped their third straight one-run game to No. 10 Texas State, 4-3, in Saturday's regular-season finale at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Ryerson, the junior outfielder-DH, led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo blast to right center field. He surpassed a record that had stood for more than two decades, surpassing Chad Smith's 2000 season total of 21.

Ryerson's homer brought the Panthers (30-26, 15-15 Sun Belt) within one run at 4-3, but they could get no closer against the Sun Belt Conference regular-season champions, who won their 10th straight game to improve to 44-11, 26-4 in the Sun Belt.

Ryerson also had an RBI-single in the first inning to give Georgia State the early 1-0 lead.

Texas State tied the game in the fourth, but the Panthers moved ahead in the fifth as Caleb Stewart scored on a ground ball by Dylan Strickland.

But the Bobcats answered with the tying run in the sixth and then took a 4-2 lead on John Wuthrich's 2-run homer in the seventh.

Brandon Kaminer turned in a solid start for the Panthers, allowing two runs on seven hits in five innings with a career-high six strikeouts. The GSU staff totaled 11 strikeouts on the day, raising their school-record season total to 495.

The Sun Belt Conference Championship begins Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium in Montogomery, Ala. Final pairings and schedule will be announced by the conference later tonight.
