MOBILE, Ala.- Georgia State falls to Troy, 0-5, in the SBC Tournament to end the season.
Troy (31-20) battled from the very beginning after Audra Thompson hit a three run homerun in the first inning. The Trojans extended their lead to four in the fifth inning before entering a weather delay due to lightning in the area. Troy scored one more time coming out of the delay on a single RBI to left field.Â
The Panthers (21-33) tried to respond in the second inning with a single up the middle by Skylar Chavez. Two more Panthers were walked to load the bases but nothing came across the plate.Â
Sophie Mooney doubled down the left field line to get on base in the sixth inning, but was left stranded by three Panthers.
Emily Buck started in the circle for the 16th time this season but was quickly retired in the third inning after struggling with illegal pitching calls. Buck took the loss for the Panthers but ended the season with a winning record (9-8).
Hallie Adams (5-13) was brought into the game to relieve Buck in the third. Adams only allowed two runs on two hits and one walk. She struck out seven batters in five innings to tie her game high of the season (vs. Georgia Southern, May 7).Â
Leanna Johnson, Troy's best pitcher, also struggled with illegal pitching calls and was forced to retire in the bottom of the third inning. She only allowed one hit and walked four Panthers during her time in the circle. Libby Baker (9-5) earned the win for the Trojans.
Georgia State Softball would like to thank all the fans who continued to support the Panthers all season long. We hope to see you next season at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
