Horton Pitches 3-Hitter, Ryerson Hits 20th HR in 10-2 Win

JONESBORO, ARK. -- Trey Horton pitched a complete game 3-hitter and Max Ryerson hit his 20th homer of the season as Georgia State downed Arkansas State 10-2 Friday night at Tomlinson Stadium

Horton, the super senior from Acworth, Ga., was spectacular as he pitched Georgia State's first complete-game victory since 2018. He retired the Red Wolves in order through the first three innings before allowing a single in the fourth. Arkansas State managed a run in the sixth on a walk, a groundout and a single and then hit a solo homer with two outs in the ninth.

Horton (2-1) struck out six and walked two in his 73rd career appearance (tied for fifth in GSU history).

Ryerson's homer, a solo blast to lead off the sixth inning, ties him for second on the Georgia State season list, just one behind Chad Smith's school-record of 21, set in 2000. Ryerson has hit five homers in the last seven games.

The junior from Conway, S.C., drove in three runs on the night, adding a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk. He leads the Panthers with 56 RBI for the season.

Freshman Caleb Stewart went 3-for-6 with three RBI, and Cameron Jones had two hits and two RBI. Dylan Strickland and Jesse Donohoe also drove in runs, while Dalton Pearson doubled twice.

Neither team managed any offense for the first three innings, but Georgia State finally got on the board in the fourth as Jones brought home a run on a fielder's choice. From there, the Panthers scored in each of the last six innings.

The series continues with a 7 p.m. ET game Saturday night.
