Pearson Drives in Four as Panthers Pound Coastal Carolina 14-8

CONWAY, S.C. -- Dalton Pearson drove in a career-high four runs as the Panthers won their fifth straight game and improved to 20-10 with a 14-8 win at Coastal Carolina Friday night at Spring Brooks Stadium. 

Off to their best start since 2011, the Panthers are 8-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Georgia State jumped on the Chanticleers with 13 runs over the first four innings and then cruised to the victory. The Panthers scored three in the first,  five in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth.

Pearson, the sophomore outfielder, had a 2-run double in the first inning and picked up two more RBI on an error in the second. Max Ryerson, who played high school baseball at Conway's Carolina Forest High School, and Luke Boynton drove in two runs each for the Panthers.

GSU reliever Mason Patel (1-0) pitched three perfect innings in the fifth, sixth and seventh to earn the victory. Starter Trey Horton pitched four innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on just hits with six strikeouts. Dawson Sweatt finished the game with 1.1 scoreless innings.
