Strong Pitching Keys Fourth Straight Win, 4-1 at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Camren Landry turned in another strong start and Cameron Jones earned his third save as Georgia State won its fourth straight game with a 4-1 victory at Wofford Tuesday at Russell E. King Field.

Jesse Donohoe, Blaine Marchman, DeAngelo Abboud and Caleb Stewart each drove in runs for the Panthers, who improved to 8-5 on the season.

Donohoe put the Panthers on the board in the second inning with a sacrifice fly, and Marchman made it 2-0 in the third inning with an RBI-single to score Kyle Riesselmann who doubled.

But that was the last hit Georgia State managed until the top of the ninth, when they added two key insurance runs. Griffin Cheney drew a one-out walk, and then Abboud ripped a double down the left field line and into the corner. Cheney raced home from first base, just sliding safely at the plate. Then Stewart tripled to right field to score Abboud and give the Panthers a 4-1 lead.

Landry (1-2), the sophomore right-hander who has earned the midweek starting role, pitched four scoreless innings, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out six. He allowed two singles in both the first and fourth innings, but both times, he stopped the threat with an inning-ending strikeout.

Seth Clark pitched a 1-2-3 fifth for the Panthers. After Wofford scored its only run on a solo homer to lead off the sixth, Chad Treadway came on from the bullpen and retired to five straight.

Jones, who was honored today as the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week, moved from first base to the mound and finished the game with two scoreless innings to earn his third save.

Today's first pitch was moved up to 2 p.m. to beat the rain, which started falling in the eighth inning.

Georgia State returns home to host Presbyterian for a weekend series beginning Friday at 5 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
