Jones Named John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week

Georgia State sophomore Cameron Jones has been named the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation.

Jones, from Kathleen, Ga., and Houston County High School, is the Panthers' starting first baseman and top relief pitcher.

In four games last week, he went 5-for-14 with four RBI and two stolen bases. On the mound, he pitched four hitless, scoreless innings with five strikeouts. In Saturday's 3-0 win over Villanova, he earned his second save of the season by pitching the final two innings. Earlier in the week, the left-hander threw two scoreless innings against No. 10 Georgia Tech.

For the season, Jones is hitting .391 with seven RBI and team-leading six stolen bases, and he has a 0.00 ERA with two saves in three appearances.

Jones and the Panthers (7-5) are coming off a weekend sweep of Villanova and play at Wofford Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation's top combo pitcher-position player. The award is named after former Washington State Cougars All-American pitcher and first baseman and long-time Major Leaguer John Olerud.
