LEADING OFF
> Coming off a three-game sweep of Villanova, Georgia State travels to Wofford, the 2021 Southern Conference regular-season winner, for a midweek test Tuesday in Spartanburg, S.C. First pitch has been moved up to 2 p.m. due to impending inclement weather, and the game will air on ESPN+.

> Georgia State leads the Sun Belt Conference in home runs (12), including two of the league's top three in  Max Ryerson (6) and Griffin Cheney (4). GSU ranks second in batting average at .309.

> In the three-game sweep of Villanova, Georgia State outscored the Wildcats 26-4, including the program's first back-to-back shutouts (15-0 and 3-0) since 2018. In Sunday's game, the Panthers rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to win 8-4, led by Max Ryerson's three-run homer in the seventh.

> Max Ryerson leads the Sun Belt Conference with six home runs and 40 total bases. He hit two runs on Opening Weekend vs. Purdue Fort Wayne and then slugged two more at Kennesaw State. In Sunday's win over Villanova, he hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie and send the Panthers to their third straight victory. Ryerson is a junior college transfer from Gulf Coast State, where he was the 2021 Panhandle Conference Player of the Year.

> Super senior shortstop Griffin Cheney is the Panthers' leading hitter with a .429 average, including four homers and eight RBI. He is third in the Sun Belt in both homers and average.

> Cameron Jones is a two-way standout as the starting first baseman and top reliever. The sophomore is hitting .391 with seven RBI and a team-leading six stolen bases. On the mound, he has 0.00 ERA and two saves in three appearances with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

> Saturday starter Chandler Dawson (1-0) has not allowed a run in two starts in 2022, covering 9.1 innings. Over his last 11 appearances dating back to last April, the sophomore right-hander is 4-0 with one save and a 1.17 ERA in 30.2 innings.

> Although he doesn't have a win to show for it, midweek starter Camren Landry has performed well in his first two career starts. Against No. 10 Georgia Tech, he struck out nine in six innings while allowing just four hits and zero earned runs. His nine strikeouts are the most by any Panther hurler since Hunter Gaddis in 2019. Landry made his first career start at Kennesaw State, he pitched into the sixth inning and struck out five.

> Georgia State and Wofford are meeting for the second straight year. Last season in Atlanta, in the second-longest game in GSU history, the Panthers won in the 14th on a walk-off single by pitcher Trey Horton in his first career at-bat. Georgia State has won three straight over Wofford and leads the series 9-5.

> Third-year head coach Brad Stromdahl took over the Georgia State program in 2020 after seven seasons as the head coach at Georgia Gwinnett, where he started the program from scratch in 2013 and compiled a record of 328-104. He led the Grizzlies to the Avista-NAIA World Series three times, including his last two years (2018-19). Before going to Georgia Gwinnett in November 2011, Stromdahl spent five seasons (2007-11) as an assistant coach at Georgia State.
