Ryerson's HR Lifts GSU to 8-4 Win to Complete Sweep

ATLANTA -- Max Ryerson's three-run home run in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and sent Georgia State to an 8-4 victory over Villanova, completing a three-game sweep at the GSU Baseball Complex.

With the game tied at 4-all, catcher Chase Wullenweber and Blaine Marchman led off the seventh with back-to-back singles. Then Ryerson hit the 1-0 pitch down the right field line for the opposite field homer, his sixth of the season to lead the Sun Belt Conference. 

Ryan Watson (1-1) finished the game with three scoreless innings to earn the victory. 

Georgia State (7-5) outscored the Wildcats (1-9) 26-4 in the series.

"Anytime you sweep, its a great weekend, and we played very well," head coach Brad Stromdahl said. "We pitched really well all weekend, we played good defense and we got timely hitting. And we finished it off with a come-from-behind win on Sunday."
 
After allowing its first runs of the series to fall behind 4-0 early, Georgia State responded with four runs in the fourth, all with two outs. DeAngelo Abboud started the rally with a 2-out single, then moved to third on failed pickoff attempt. JoJo Jackson singled home Abboud and scored on Kyle Riesselmann's double. Then three straight singles by Caleb Stewart (RBI), Wullenweber and Marchman (RBI) brought home two more to tie the game at 4-all.

Left-hander Seth Clark came on from the bullpen and shut down the Wildcats for the fifth and sixth innings before giving way to Watson.

Marchman went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI, while Wullenweber and DeAngelo Abboud had two hits each.

Georgia State travels to Wofford for a midweek test Tuesday at 5 p.m. and then returns home for a weekend series against Presbyterian.
