Panthers Sweep ULM, Finish Weekend with Back-to-Back Shutouts

ATLANTA- Coming off a win over Sun Belt foe Louisiana on Saturday, the Georgia State women's tennis team secured consecutive shutouts over conference opponents this weekend with a sweep, 4-0, over ULM on Sunday. Angel Carney clinched the match point for the Panthers with a victory in the No. 5 court position as GSU improves to 12-5 on the season.

Carney has now seen victory in 13 consecutive singles matches for the Panthers with Sunday's win serving to clinch a fifth SBC victory for the team.

The Panthers entered doubles play with confidence as Eva Chivu and Pragnya Kumar defeated opponents in the No. 3 position, 6-3. Andreea Stanescu and Ellie Aldrich saw victory, 6-4, in the second court position to secure the early point for GSU and put the team ahead, 1-0, entering singles.

GSU proceeded to post swift first set victories on five of six court positions. The team failed to drop a set in match competition as positions No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 accounted for three straight points in singles play.

Chivu posted another strong victory, 6-2, 6-3, at the top court as GSU took a 2-0 advantage. Sofya Golubovskaya defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-3, on court No. 2 to give the Panthers a third point.

Carney's win, 6-2, 6-4, closed out Sunday's outing as the Panthers earned the conference victory over ULM and finished the weekend unbeaten. With the team's seventh shutout of the spring, GSU now leads the conference in wins at 5-1.

GSU takes a road trip to Texas for a pair of matchups against conference opponents next weekend. The Panthers will travel to San Marcos, Texas to face Texas State on Saturday, April 2 followed by UT Arlington for the backend of the weekend doubleheader on Sunday, April 3.

Both matches will be played at 10 a.m. ET. Information regarding live scoring will be posted to the team's social media accounts leading up to the start of each match.
