Women’s Tennis Defeats Troy, Earns Tenth Victory on Saturday

Troy, Ala.- Continuing conference play with a weekend doubleheader of outings on the road, the Georgia State women's tennis team posted a victory, 4-2, over Troy on Saturday. Sofya Golubovskaya clinched the match for the Panthers on court No. 2 as GSU collected its tenth victory on the season and moved to 10-4.

Saturday saw the Panthers drop in doubles and fall behind early entering the match. GSU regained its momentum in singles competition with three straight wins on courts No. 5, No. 3 and No. 1.

Angel Carney continued her impressive streak of wins at the No. 5 singles position with yet another victory, 6-4, 6-1. The win marks Carney's eleventh consecutive victory.

Andreea Stanescu accounted for another victory, 6-4, 6-4, on singles court No. 3 to earn the Panthers a second point. The senior has won nine of 10 matches competing in the second and third positions for GSU.

Eva Chivu posted a three set win in the top court position, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, as the Panthers extended the lead to 3-1. Troy responded by claiming court No. 4 in an effort to keep the match within reach, but not before Golubovskaya's three set victory, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, in the second position clinched the match point for GSU and earned the team a third conference win.

GSU travels to Mobile, Ala. in a quick turnaround to face South Alabama on Sunday, March 20. The match will be played at Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts at 10 a.m. ET.
