Panthers Rally to Secure Second Conference Victory Over Coastal Carolina, 4-2

ATLANTA- After dropping first sets on five of six courts, the Georgia State women's tennis team rallied for come-from-behind victories on courts No. 1 and No. 5 to secure a win over conference foe Coastal Carolina, 4-2. Angel Carney clinched the match point for the Panthers at court position No. 5 with her tenth consecutive victory in singles.

GSU entered the match with a strong decision in doubles that gave the team an early lead, 1-0. Andreea Stanescu made quick work of her opponent in the third position with a win, 6-2, 6-2, giving GSU a 2-0 lead.

After collecting a victory in No. 6 singles, Coastal Carolina evened the match, 2-2, with another win in the No. 2 position. Having dropped the first set on the second court, Sofya Golubovskaya battled back but ultimately fell short of victory, 0-6, 6-7 (6).

Dropping the first set at the top position, Eva Chivu fought to secure a victory in the second set and extended the match to a third set. The senior claimed another point for the Panthers with the three set win, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, on court No. 1 and regained the lead for GSU, 3-2.

Carney's match clincher at the fifth position, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1, earned GSU its second straight Sun Belt victory and tenth win on the season. With the conference wins over Appalachian State on Sunday and Coastal Carolina on Monday, the Panthers move to 9-4.

GSU will return to action and continue Sun Belt play next weekend as the team travels for a pair of road outings against Troy on Saturday, March 19 and South Alabama on Sunday, March 20. Both matches are set for a 10 a.m. ET start time.

More information on live scoring will be posted to the team's social media accounts and on the web leading up to the matches. Follow Georgia State women's tennis on Twitter (@GSUWTennis) and Instagram (@GSUWomensTennis) for news and updates throughout the season.
