Panthers Fall Short in Battle Against Kennesaw State, 4-3

ATLANTA- Entering the weekend having won five consecutive matches, the Georgia State women's tennis team came up short in its return to home competition against Kennesaw State on Saturday. Despite a gritty performance from the team in a lengthy, back-and-forth battle, GSU dropped court No. 3 with the match at even, 3-3, and fell to KSU, 4-3.

Hosted at the GSU Clarkston Courts, Saturday's contest marked only the second home outing for the Panthers this spring. The match was highlighted by Andreea Stanescu's impressive singles performance in the No. 3 position. Despite falling short of a win, the senior posted an exhaustive three-set performance, 3-6, 7-6, 4-6, lasting nearly five hours.

Angel Carney secured yet another win, 6-4, 6-3, on Saturday as the junior now has six consecutive victories in singles and remains undefeated in doubles with partner Sofya Golubovskaya

Following a successful doubles outing that saw the Panthers go up early, 1-0, GSU fell behind, 2-1 after dropping on courts No. 2 and No. 4. The team rallied and secured victories in the first and fifth positions to regain the lead, 3-2.

Senior Eva Chivu posted a three-set win, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, in the first position for the Panthers. Chivu recently made a return to the team's lineup having missed time with an injury.

Ellie Aldrich also saw a three-set battle playing in court position No. 6 as the sophomore fell just short of clinching the victory over the undefeated KSU. Aldrich has clinched two matches for the Panthers this spring.

GSU will return to play next weekend for a pair of home matches against Florida A&M on Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m. ET followed by a Sunday outing against Alabama State on March 6 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
