Ryerson Named Preseason All-America

ATLANTA -- After earning All-America honors last spring, Georgia State slugger Max Ryerson is poised for another strong season as he was named a Preseason All-American (third team) by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Opening Day for the 2023 season is less than two months away as head coach Brad Stromdahl's Panthers host Cincinnati on Friday, Feb. 17 at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Ryerson, an outfielder and designated hitter, smashed 22 home runs last spring to lead the Sun Belt Conference and break the Georgia State single-season record in his first year with the Panthers. 

He was named to Collegiate Baseball's All-America third team.becoming Georgia State's first All-American under Stromdahl and the program's first since Nic Wilson and Chase Raffield were recognized in 2014.

Ryerson hit .335 and led the Panthers with 62 RBI, third in the Sun Belt and Georgia State's highest season total since 2010.

Adding 17 doubles to his 22 homers, Ryerson also broke the GSU season record with 158 total bases for a .705 slugging percentage.

He ranked in the Top 10 in the Sun Belt in homers, doubles, hits, RBI, slugging and OPS.

The Conway, S.C., native was also named Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year as well as first-team All-Sun Belt, and he was selected National Player of the Week three times during the 2022 season.
