Diaz Connects in Panthers' Victory, 1-0, Over Marshall

ATLANTA— Georgia State women's soccer secured a second consecutive conference win over Marshall on Sunday as junior midfielder Elena Diaz helped lead the Panthers to victory with a goal in the 21st minute. Marking a fifth goal on the season for Diaz, the junior transfer now leads the team in scoring and ranks second in shots on goal with 11.

The Panthers entered the match and charted 11 shots in the first period while limiting the Thundering Herd to just four. Following the first period goal by Diaz, GSU returned in the second period and managed eight additional shots for a total of 19 on the day.

A total of 11 Panthers tallied shots on Sunday including Alondra Nieves and Jimena Cabrero with a team high of three shots each. Cabrero notched the team's sole assist of the day on Diaz's goal in the 21st minute.

Eva Diez Lois, Callee Maughon, Lauren O'Hearn and Brooke Hart each accounted for two shots on Sunday. Coming off a late goal in the 88th minute to lift the Panthers to victory over Sun Belt opponent Appalachian State on Thursday, Hart accounted for a team-high two shots on goal facing Marshall.

Gabby West, Maddie Johnston, Bree Barley, Gracen Crosby and Diaz all charted one goal each. Goalkeeper Jaddah Foos helped lead the Panthers' defense to a second straight clean sheet while charting four saves on the day.


 


Improving to 7-2-5 overall and 3-1-2 in Sun Belt play with the victory over Marshall, GSU travels to Jonesboro, Ark. next week and will face SBC foe Arkansas State on Sunday, Oct. 16. The match will kick at noon ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with live stats available to fans.
