Panthers Fall in Road Battle Facing Arkansas State

Jonesboro, Ark.—Coming off a pair of wins against Sun Belt Conference opponents Marshall and Appalachian State a week ago, the Georgia State women's soccer team dropped a road match facing SBC foe Arkansas State on Sunday. Despite junior goalkeeper Jaddah Foos recording a total of seven saves as well as six different Panthers registering a total of nine shots on the day, GSU was unable to connect as the team fell short in the hard-fought battle, 1-0.

The Panthers fell behind by a score early in the 16th minute following a cross by Arkansas State that managed to angle into the top of the net. Down 1-0 at the half after recording just two shots in the first period, the team raised its level of play in the second period charting seven shots as a collective and matching the Red Wolves' offensive attack.

Despite the production on offense and the GSU defense led by Foos' effort holding Arkansas State scoreless in the second half, the Panthers were unable to find the net and equalize the match. Just the third loss on the year and the second loss in conference play for the Panthers, GSU remains unbeaten in the Sun Belt's East Division.

Junior midfielder Elena Diaz charted a team high in shots on Sunday with three. Senior Jimena Cabrero recorded a pair of shots with one shot on goal.

GSU falls to 7-3-5 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play with the loss. Continuing Sun Belt play on the road next week, the Panthers will face the conference's current top-ranked team in James Madison on Thursday, Oct. 20 in Harrisonburg, Va.

The match against the Dukes is set to kick at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with live stats available to fans.
