Panthers Drop Road Match Facing JMU

Harrisonburg, Va.— Traveling for a second consecutive conference match on the road, the Georgia State women's soccer team fell short of victory, 4-1, facing the Sun Belt's top ranked team James Madison on Thursday night.

GSU fell behind following a goal by JMU in the 23rd minute. JMU connected on a second goal shortly after in the 25th minute, and GSU entered the half down, 2-0.

Midfielder Gracen Crosby, forward Bree Barley and midfielder Elena Diaz all charted shots in the first period for a total of three as a team. Entering the second half, GSU saw improved offense charting a total of five shots as a collective.

Diaz attempted a second shot for a total of two on the night, while forwards Maddie JohnstonJimena Cabrero and Alondra Nieves all attempted one shot each.

With the Panthers' deficit extended following a third goal by JMU in the 53th minute, Crosby charted a second shot and connected on a goal for the Panthers in the 90th minute. The goal by Crosby marks the first of the season for the junior and earned GSU a late point in the match.

Despite the improvement on offense and late goal, GSU's effort was not enough as the team dropped the match, 4-1.

GSU falls to 7-4-5 overall and 3-3-2 in Sun Belt play with the loss. The Panthers will return to Atlanta and host Old Dominion on Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon ET.

The Panthers' home match facing ODU will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available to fans.
