Wyatt Shines in Five-Set Loss to App State

The Panthers fell in five sets in the final match against App State on Friday afternoon (25-23 App, 30-28 GSU, 25-17 GSU, 25-19 App, 15-8 App).
 
Outside hitter Erin Wyatt had an outstanding stat line across the board for the Panthers. The junior recorded her fifth double-double on the season with 15 kills, a season-high 20 digs, alongside three aces and two blocks. Julianna Truscott also notched 15 kills on the night. Isabelle Percoco was the third Panther to record double-digits kills with 10. Clara Bednarek, Izzy Durnell and Laura Ehieze were strong at nets for the Panthers with seven, six, and four blocks respectively.
 
The Mountaineers got out to an early six-point lead, going 9-3 in set one. The Panthers battled back to close the gap to two but could not recover from their early deficit. The team saved three set points, including kills by Truscott and Percoco, before eventually dropping, 25-23.
 
Set two was a close battle with many long rallies. It included 21 tie scores and 10 lead changes. At 21-all, Ava Vlkovic served up an ace to give the Panthers the advantage. Laura Ehieze put down a kill to give the Panthers set point at 24-22. The Mountaineers fought back and pushed the set to extra points, tying the game four more times. Jenna Brown dished out a set to Isabelle Percoco who put down a kill to win set two for the Panthers, 30-28.
 
The Panthers got out to a hot start in set three. A Laura Ehieze kill ignited a 5-0 Panthers run which including kills by Percoco, an ace by Livy Kowalkowski, and a block by Percoco and Bednarek. Vlkovic dished out her second ace of the match to secure the third set victory, 25-17.
 
The Mountaineers took the final two sets 25-19 and 15-8 respectively. The fourth set was highlighted by short runs that prevented the Panthers from gaining any momentum. A 5-0 run in the fifth set gave the Mountaineers at 10-5 lead, and ultimately pushed them to victory.
 
The Panthers return home on October 14 at 6 p.m. to take on new Sun Belt Conference member, James Madison. The match will be streamed on ESPN+
