Panthers Drop to Dukes in Four

ATLANTA – Georgia State hosted new Sun Belt Conference member, James Madison, on Friday night at the GSU Sports Arena. The Dukes entered the match in second place in the East Division and came out on top winning the match, 3-1. Junior outside hitter, Erin Wyatt recorded her sixth double-double of the season in the match, but it wasn't enough to pull the Panthers to victory.

The Panthers got off to a slow start in set one, allowing the Dukes to get out to an early 7-1 lead. A kill by Julianna Truscott would close the gap to five at 20-15. Ava Vlkovic notched her ninth ace of the season and the Dukes called a timeout. Laura Ehieze and Truscott put up huge block to bring the Panthers within one, however the Dukes responded and were able to bring in the set one victory, 25-20.

Isabelle Percoco got things started in set two for the Panthers with a kill. The teams battled back and forth with 15 tie scores and six lead changes in the set. Tied up at 15-all, Livy Kowalkowski laid out for a dig to Maren Palmer to set Clara Bednarek up for the kill. The Panthers would have set point three times, pushing the set to extra points, before Bednarek was able to close the door with an ace, 28-26.

The Panthers were unable to capitalize off the momentum from the set two victory. The Dukes would take set three, 25 – 13 and set four 25 – 13, ultimately winning the match 3-1.

Kowalkowski led all players on the court with 22 digs. Both Percoco and Wyatt put down 12 kills. Jenna Brown dished out 24 assists and Palmer dished out 17. In the Panthers' 6-2 offense. Trsucott notched four blocks, including one solo.

The Panthers welcome their alumni back to the GSU Sports Arena tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM in a rematch against the Dukes. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
