Wilkins, Williams Net Goals in Shutout Over South Carolina

ATLANTA- Senior Max Wilkins and Junior Tom Williams score a pair of goals to lift Georgia State to a 2-0 win over South Carolina. The Panthers played their last regular home match of the season and recognized the eight seniors on the squad before the match.
 
The Panthers now improve to 10-3-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the Sun Belt. After tonight they now sit in fourth in the Sun Belt and will play one more conference match that will determine post season seeding.
 
With the win, Georgia State has now won at least 10 matches in six of the last seven seasons.
 
In the first half, Wilkins netted the first goal of the night in the 25th minute of the match.  The goal was assisted by Justin McLean, it would be his seventh assist of the season and still leads the Panthers. The goal was Wilkins sixth goal of the season putting him at the top of the Panthers with Simon Carlson.

 

Tom Williams scored the second goal in the 51st minute thanks to an assist by Carlson. It would be Williams third goal and Carlson's third assist this season.
 

The defense held strong and kept the Gamecocks scoreless to earn the shutout for the Panthers. The Panthers outshot the Gamecocks, 23-13, and Gunther Rankenburg racked up eight saves, just one shy of his game high.
 
Rankenburg recorded his fourth shutout of the season and has moved into the top five of Georgia State Career Shutouts tied with Vincent Foermer (2009-12) at fourth with 12 career shutouts.
 
Georgia State has one last conference match on the road taking on Old Dominion on Tuesday, November 1 at 7 p.m.. The conference games on Tuesday will determine the rankings in the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
