Box Score ATLANTA -- Georgia State drew a tie against No. 6 Marshall with an equalizing goal from Jack Hilton-Jones with 16 minutes left to play on the cold Wednesday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.
The draw moved GSU to 9-2-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the Sun Belt Conference, right behind Marshall, now 7-2-3 overall and 2-1-3 in the Sun Belt.
The first half got off to a slow start with neither team getting a shot until 10 minutes in. Shots continued to be scarce for both teams, but Panthers would out shoot the Herd 4-3. Two of the four shots came Clay Dawes who attempted back-to-back headers but would miss just over the crossbar.
12 minutes into the second half the Herd notched a goal to take the lead, 1-0.
In the 73rd minute the Panthers were granted a corner kick that was blocked by the Keeper. Jack Hilton- Jones connected with ball tapped to him by Ramon Munoz to score the Equalizing goal. The goal is Hilton-Jones first career goal and Munoz's first assist of the season.
Although it was cold outside, things got heated in the second half. This included a total of 6/8 yellow cards and 18 total fouls. The Panthers battled to the very end coming close to two more goals with less than 10 minutes left but left the match in a draw.
The Panthers will travel to West Virginia this weekend to face another Sun Belt opponent on Sunday. Kick is set for 7 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+.
