Wilkins' Pair of Goals Leads the Panthers to 3-1 Victory

ATLANTA- Max Wilkins notched two goals in Tuesday night's match against Incarnate Word to help lead the Panthers to Victory. With Wilkins two goals tonight he now leads the Panthers in total goals for the season with five. This was the second time this season Wilkins scored two goals in a single match.

The Panthers improved to 8-2-2 on the season and dropped UIW to 0-11. Georgia State currently stands at third in the Sun Belt behind No. 2 Kentucky and No. 4 Marshall.

It was a back and forth first half that remained scoreless for both teams. The Panthers struggled to get by the loaded bus of five cardinal defenders at the goal that held the Panthers to just seven shots in the first half.

Georgia State raised its level of play in the second half, controlling much of the possession and rattling off 13 shots, double from the first half, while holding the Cardinals to only four.

The Panthers finally made it on the board ten minutes into the second half when Tristan Jumeau flicked the ball over the opponent for a cross that connected with Wilkins who would tap it in for the goal.

Not a minute later the Panthers scored another goal. This time it was a left footed volley by Tom Williams that hit off the far post into the net. The goal was assisted by Iolo Jones, his first of the season.

The Cardinals would get one by the Panthers to get on the board to bring the lead within one.

Wilkins answered with his second goal of the night after a quick series of events. Justin McLean won the ball at midfield to find Mario Arrocha who then found Wilkins to connect with the ball and shoot a rocket into the net.

Josue Hangi recorded his first start of the season in goal, ending the match with three saves and giving up one goal.

The Panthers are back in action Saturday, October 15 for a mid-day match against Liberty in Altanta. Kick is set for 2 p.m. and will not be streamed on ESPN+.
