Calling All Narrie’s

Steve Narrie graduated from Georgia State University in the Summer of 1970.  It is not where he started his collegiate studies, but it's where he finished them.  He has organic chemistry in 1967 on Georgia Tech's campus to thank for allowing him to become a Panther.  After that class, he learned very quickly that engineering wasn't going to be for him.

Narrie was the prototypical student at Georgia State at the time, working full time at a printing press while attending school full time.  It was that job at the printing press that not only put him through college, but also allowed Narrie to enter into the management training program once he had his degree from Georgia State.  The company sent him to Columbia, S.C., and that started his career in manufacturing and production for over 44 years.  He owes it all to that organic chemistry class and GSU!

Once graduated, Narrie joined the Georgia State Alumni Association and became involved almost immediately. Fast forward to 2010, nearly 40 years after his graduation, and when Georgia State started its football team, there was Steve, ready, willing and able to support his alma mater by purchasing season tickets, joining the Panther Athletic Club, and making a difference.

Being raised by parents who lived through the Depression, one thing that Steve still carries around with him is advice his parents gave him. "If you're going to do something, invest and go all in." That's what he did. Steve had rooting interests in other college programs in his lifetime--it's impossible to not have those connections if you are a football lover--but as soon as GSU started football, there he was in the Georgia Dome, supporting his team and his school.

Season tickets for the 2022 Georgia State Panthers are currently on sale, and more than 1,100 season tickets have been sold/renewed as this article is being typed. Much of the excitement comes from the Panthers strong finish in 2021. One of the hottest teams in college football, finishing the season 7-1, and dismantling Ball State in the TaxAct Camellia Bowl on Christmas Day.  All signs point to a 2022 season that can be just as special, but Georgia State needs your help!

Only 12 graduating classes have been able to experience football as a student here, that leaves 97 other classes that did not get to experience a football season as a student. We are calling all of the "Narrie's" out there to #SoundTheHorn! As graduates of this fine University prior to the birth of the football program, it's time to support the Georgia State Panthers by doing one or all of the following:
Steve summed it up best when asked about what he would want to say to fellow alumni who may be on the fence and haven't experienced football here. "Once a Georgia State Panther, always a Georgia State Panther," he said. "You've got to find ways to support your school, and this is a fun, cost-effective way to do so in one of Atlanta's finest venues."
