Built for Moments: Center Parc Credit Union Stadium’s Rise as a Cultural Landmark

ATLANTA-- Georgia State Athletics has always envisioned Center Parc Credit Union Stadium as more than just the home of Panthers football. Since the stadium's repurposing in 2017, it has become one of Atlanta's most versatile venues, drawing the attention not just of fans, but of Hollywood film makers, major recording artists and festival producers.

Most recently, Georgia State Athletics and Center Parc Credit Union Stadium hosted the on-field production of Hulu's Chad Powers, the upcoming series starring Glenn Powell.

The stadium's turf turned into a production set last season, with Senior Associate A.D. of Facilities and Operations Patrick Hatcher and his facilities and events team working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything operated seamlessly. Uniquely, filming of the newest football drama series took place in the middle of football season, meaning that the entire stadium was flipped from a production set back to a fully prepped football field and then back again each week.

The Hulu shoot is only the latest in a growing lineup of high-profile projects staged at Georgia State's flagship venue. In 2020, Walt Disney Pictures filmed key scenes of Safety, the drama inspired by the true story of Clemson safety Ray-Ray McElrathbey. Just two years later, the stadium was the backdrop for Netflix's sci-fi thriller They Cloned Tyrone. Center Parc Credit Union Stadium has also become a go-to stage for major live music events, hosting the Foo Fighters' 2018 sold-out concert and the 2025 Breakaway Festival, among others.

"It's been an amazing opportunity for my crew and I to work with so many external crews and assist them with their projects," Associate AD of Facilities and Operations Patrick Hatcher said. "With the already vast history of the stadium we've had amazing opportunities to bring new life to the historic site through our football program, concerts and entertainment media. Atlanta is a hub for many sports teams, and it's a privilege to share our space with others who see the beauty of Center Parc Credit Union Stadium."

These productions and performances are more than one-off bookings, but rather a representation of a deliberate effort by Georgia State athletics and Athletics Director Charlie Cobb to reimagine its facilities as cultural landmarks."

"For many years, we have searched creative ways to spark community engagement, increase revenues and positively build the GSU brand by hosting external events like concerts, runs/walks/bike rides for local non-profits, providing the backdrop for movies and commercials, and hosting other football games," Athletics Director Charlie Cobb said. "Center Parc Credit Union Stadium is the ideal facility for multi-purpose entertainment. I am proud of our operations staff, led by Senior Associate AD Patrick Hatcher, in optimizing these opportunities for us."

Tapping into Atlanta's booming entertainment industry and live-event scene, Georgia State Athletics has created new revenue streams and widened the stadium's role as a community hub. The approach reflects a key pillar of Georgia State's Strategic Plan: Placemaking and Belonging. By opening its doors to fans, film crews and festivalgoers alike, Center Parc Credit Union Stadium strengthens its place as a venue that belongs to all of Atlanta.

And the lights aren't dimming anytime soon. With upcoming major sports films poised to roll cameras in and around Center Parc Credit Union Stadium, Panther blue may once again share the screen with Hollywood gold.

For Georgia State Athletics, every production is a reminder of the stadium's potential. Whether it's touchdowns, guitars, or cameras rolling, Center Parc Credit Union Stadium continues to prove that it is built for more than football. It is built for moments.
