Carroll Named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week

ATLANTA -- Senior Blake Carroll is this week's GSU Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the football team to an impressive win over Charlotte on Saturday night.

The inside linebacker led Georgia State's outstanding effort in knocking off previously unbeaten Charlotte with nine tackles (8 solo stops), a sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

Carroll and the Panthers allowed just 276 yards of total offense, the seventh lowest figure in program history.

Charlotte had entered the game averaging 34.5 points per game, including 31 points in a win over Duke, but the GSU defense held the 49ers to just one touchdown on 118 yards rushing and 158 yards passing.

Carroll made perhaps the biggest defensive play of the game with his forced fumble at the GSU 13-yard line late in the third quarter. After the Panthers took a 13-9 lead, Charlotte drove deep into GSU territory, but Carroll knocked the ball loose and teammate Chris Bacon recovered to preserve the lead.

Next up for Carroll and the Panthers is a trip just across the state line to face Auburn on Saturday at 4 p.m. on SEC Network.
